“The book illustrator completes the text with his innovative illustrations, which is a good way to better convey the message of the writer to readers,” he said.
Cultural and religious affinities among nations must be first considered by the writer and second by the illustrator, that is, the book illustrator must fully understand the message of the story before beginning work on the book, he added.
Salavatian, who recently illustrated the bilingual English-Persian book “Who Is Peter? He Is a Peach! There Is a Mystery in His Heart!”, stated, “I tried to be loyal to Iranian-Islamic illustration, and also have added Italian signs and symbols as well, so that local and cultural commonalities are preserved.”
The book compares Iranian and Italian cities, tourist attractions, and historical monuments in order to help promote cultural exchange through children’s literature, he said.
“Who Is Peter?” was written by Hamid Honarju, translated by Hossein Kaji, and illustrated by Mohammad-Hossein Salavatian.
The 40-page book was published by Nur al-Saqalein Publications and is now available in Iranian bookshops.
